Personalized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS)

PrTMS (Personalized rapid transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a non-invasive and drug-free treatment for depression and other mental health conditions. It works by delivering a magnetic pulse to the region of your brain that regulates your moods, particularly stimulating under-active neurons that are creating the feelings of depression. The Anderson Clinic is honored to be the only clinic in the Cincinnati area to offer personalized TMS and one of only a handful in the nation. Dr. Anderson was trained directly by the creator of this therapy and continues to work closely with him.

What is TMS?

TMS for depression

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain (neurons). Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a protocol for deriving TMS to individuals with certain mental health conditions over the course of several weeks. Both TMS and rTMS stimulate under active neurons to improve brain function and alleviate symptoms such as depression and anxiety.

How is PRTMS different?

Our brains all operate at slightly different frequencies which is why many ‘one-size fits all’ therapies fail. Personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (PrTMS) utilizes objective data in the form of electroencephalograms (EEG). The EEG device takes a recording in less than 5 minutes — without the use of wires or gels. It simultaneously records activity in 19 different functional regions of the brain that control different activities, emotions, and skills. This provides objective, quantitative brain function data, which is used to create a dose-optimized TMS treatment plan.
